Pedometer issues
Reply Quote

Anyone having trouble getting the pedometer to calculate correctly when running? I got the Omron HJ112 and took it for a spin today on my W6D3 run (25 min run).

I was so excited to finish the 25 mins and then I looked at the pedometer to see my stats and it only said 1.24 miles. I run on an inside track and it takes 14 times around = 1 mile.  So, even if it took me 1 minute a lap, I would have been close to 2 miles.

So, I looked around the internet and saw that it was pretty common for the pedometer to calculate incorrectly when running.  I had set the stride (1 ft 8 in) according to the directions (which was walking, but I figured it would somehow calculate the running stride).  Tonight I did the stride again while running and came up with 3.5.  So, that makes more sense....just about double the 1.24 miles.

So, I guess I'm wondering where you guys are setting your strides.  Does 3.5 sound right for a 5'4" gal?

I'm no pedometer expert, but 1ft 8in sounds *really* small for a stride, even for walking.  That would be a shuffle for me at 5'5".  3.5ft sounds much more reasonable.
Next up: More 5k running!

The directions said to take 10 steps, measure the distance and divide by 10. So for me it was 1.8 ( not a power walk. just a normal everyday stride). No wonder everyone walks faster than me LOL!  I think I'm on the right track now...just operator error :-)
