Angry [:@] WOW that was a bad run - support please!

Ugh! Just when I was starting to feel a bit confident.

I've just completed Week 7, Run 3 and it was a nasty one! Usually the first 5 or 8 minutes of a run feels pretty decent for me, but TWO MINUTES into this run I felt like death, and it didn't let up. Argh. My knees started hurting, my breath got short and, somehow, I felt like I was carrying around a lot more weight than I am. I honestly felt 50 pounds heavier than normal. I was slow as a snail and barely getting my feet up off the ground.

Didn't help that on the hardest part of my run (uphill) I was running directly into the wind. Ugh. That added resistence killed me. Then I got a stomach cramp, which I never get. And by the last few minutes of the run I was starting to get pain in my back! That's never happened!

Got home and plotted my run on gmaps then used cool running's pace calculator and, unsurprisingly, this was my slowest run ever. Booooo.

To top it off, I got home, went straight to the kitchen without taking my shoes off to get a drink. Filled myself up a nice glass of refreshing water, took a big sip...and then promptly realised that the last time I used the water I used the HOT water. I took a big, refreshing sip of HOT water after my warm, sweaty run.

Good riddance to week 7! (though, if I were a smarter person I'd probably repeat at least Run 3)

Bah! That sounds wretched.  Good riddance indeed.

I don't think you need to repeat run 3 -- run 1 of week 8 is basically the same, just an extra three minutes -- 25 to 28 minutes isn't that big a stretch.

It sounds like everything was working against you -- the wind, the cramp, your back, the hot water (bleah!).   The next run is bound to be better.

Did the cramp & the back pain go away shortly after the run, or did they linger?  Hope you're feeling better!

Just write it off to being a bad run that you got through and move on!  Congrats on getting W7 done!

Yeah, I guess you're right. I've been adding a minute to most of my runs so I'm actually running 26 minutes already. Running 28 shouldn't be much of a stretch. Good thinking!

The cramp went away during the run and the back pain went away right away when I stopped. Everything just felt really tight and unhappy. I felt fine once I finished running. Silly muscles.

Thanks for the well wishes!

Thanks! I thought to myself once I realised it was going to be a crap run, "Wow, if I get through this it'll be a miracle". So I guess I experienced a miracle today. I guess that's something. :)

That hot water thing would've put me over the edge, too : )

I really appreciate hearing about the bad runs, especially from someone ahead of me in the program.  I don't know, it just makes it seem realistic and okay to not be perfect - as long as I keep going, like you did.  Thanks!  Hope Week 8 brings back your confidence again!

Your next run will be better....I hate bad runs! It happens every so often, the stars align and BAM! Keep it up! At least you finished. I've been known to cut my run short if I'm not enjoying it....

I hate bad runs too, I always feel really bad, like I should be able to do better than this!!! Sometimes the next run is better and sometimes it's not but you will definitely have better runs soon....don't feel bad.
