Week 2 Day 3. Hard work.
Reply Quote

Hi

This is my first post. I have not long returned from w2d3. Up til now I have found the runs not easy but OK then today I struggled to get through the last two 90 second jogs. I was going slow - so slow I cant say it was my legs or my breathing it was more of a feeling of being SO tired I couldnt go on. However I managed them - just. I walk a lot in my life although not at a quick pace and I know although my stamina is good my CV fitness is appalling. But I am puzzled and dismayed that after two days of week 2 being OK the last day was so tough. It makes me unsure about going onto week 3. Has anyone else encountered this? Am I being naive thinking that if I can do something for days 1 and 2 it shouldnt be really tough on day 3? Should I repeat week 2?

Many thanks for any tips.

Welcome Maggot. (Feels weird saying that. It doesn't sound like much of a welcome does it)

I just did W2 D3  today too.

I also found it pretty hard but managed to get through. I don't think I could have run another 30 seconds at the end. I noticed that my heart rate following each run segment progressively was a bit higher, culminating at 148 following the last run.  I assume as we progress it will stop progressively rising as we recover quicker.

I'm still going to move forward however and see what happens.

Hi Maggot,

Speaking from my own experience, I always made a promise to myself that I would only repeat the previous week if I found the first day of the following week almost impossible. I haven't repeated a week yet, and I had some bad Fridays :) I always came back hard on Monday.

Trust your body, listen to what it tells you and you won't go far wrong.

Good luck
Gary

Maggot, some days are just harder than others for any of a number of reasons.  If I were you, I'd continue on.  If you try another couple days and things don't improve, then consider repeating a week or a day until you feel like you have a better time of it.  I bet you just had an off day.  I have those, too, but I just kept with it and now I'm almost done.

Many thanks for all that advice - it has inspired me to try for week 3 this evening but not beating myself up if I cant do it. I will let you know how it goes. By the way Maggot has been my family nickname since i was tiny because as a little girl I couldnt keep still always running jumping cartwheeling 40 years on the name has stuck but the behaviour hasnt. Heres hoping the maggot within me (now that might sound odd) is enticed back into life by running.

THANK YOU  ALL FOR ENCOURAGING ME TO CONTINUE.

Not long returned from W3D1 and yes I managed it - in fact even though it wasnt easy I think it was slightly easier than W2D3 so Melly think you might have been right maybe it was an off day, Penguin (Gary) great advice to not repeat until I have at least tried the new week - Im going to stick to that philosphy too. Batman hope weeek 3 going well for you and I was really interested to hear about the heart rate increasing over the week - wondering if that is happening to me - maybe Im getting tired towards end of the week (cant think Im running any quicker!)

Anyway next up W2D3 for me and good luck with the final (for this programme) run Melly.

Great job, Maggot!
I bet in a week or two, you will look back and be amazed at how your CV fitness has improved.  For those first few weeks, I felt that the program took me to the edge of my capabilities several times.  But that was what it took to improve my fitness incrementally, more or less.  Sometimes it seemed like two steps forward and one step back, though, due to factors external to the program.  Sometimes I know why it was harder, like if the weather was tough or I ate a large meal beforehand, sometimes I don't.
Keep up the good work!

Just a clarification point Maggot.
The heart rate didn't get higher in the different running days. It got higher in the successive running segments on a given day. My assumption is that it's because in the walk break it never lowered to the point of the earlier walk break. That's why the last run segment in a given day is the hardest. The heart rate following the last run segment was higher than any earlier run segment and when it get's near your maximum that's when you feel wiped out.

I think additional training will take care of this.

Keep Running!
Cheers

Ah thanks for that clarification yes that makes sense but hopefully as we get fitter our recovery rate will get faster and faster.

Hi! I'm new to the boards, but I had to respond to your post! Week 2 day 3 was the exact same for me, and I was so nervous about starting week 3 because of the 3 minute runs. And it was so much easier! Our bodies are adapting, woo!
