I am a new runner...well I used to run back in high school and play soccer but that was some ten years and four children ago! I am hoping to get back into the running scene but I need a little help. We live in a pretty rural area and do not have many specialty stores to chose from...for anything. I know that running stores exist and will help you find the best fit for your foot but we don't have that so I feel lost. I am looking for some recomendations on what some of you runners wear, newbies and runners of old! Maybe with your recomendations I can take that list with me to the local athletic shoe stores and try some on to see which fit me best!

Welcome Tyra. You'll find some good articles and a shoe selection guide on Runners World's website.
http://www.runnersworld.com/channel/0,7119,s6-240-0-0-0,00.html
It will be important what type of shoe you need, such as cushioning, motion control etc. There are articles on this page that explain: http://www.runnersworld.com/subtopic/0,7123,s6-240-319-326-0,00.html I've had good luck with Asics Gel Cumulus and Saucony Grid, but shoes are a pretty personal thing, so I think the RW website will help. (Saucony and Asics are running only shoe companies unlike the big names like Nike and Adidas that do shoes for every sport. I like to support the specialists.) Let us know how it goes.
Good Luck.
Keep Running! Cheers Batman
