I am a new runner...well I used to run back in high school and play soccer but that was some ten years and four children ago! I am hoping to get back into the running scene but I need a little help. We live in a pretty rural area and do not have many specialty stores to chose from...for anything. I know that running stores exist and will help you find the best fit for your foot but we don't have that so I feel lost. I am looking for some recomendations on what some of you runners wear, newbies and runners of old! Maybe with your recomendations I can take that list with me to the local athletic shoe stores and try some on to see which fit me best!

Welcome Tyra.
You'll find some good articles and a shoe selection guide on Runners World's website.

It will be important what type of shoe you need, such as cushioning, motion control etc. There are articles on this page that explain: http://www.runnersworld.com/subtopic/0,7123,s6-240-319-326-0,00.html
I've had good luck with Asics Gel Cumulus and Saucony Grid, but shoes are a pretty personal thing, so I think the RW website will help. (Saucony and Asics are running only shoe companies unlike the big names like Nike and Adidas that do shoes for every sport. I like to support the specialists.) Let us know how it goes.

Good Luck.

Keep Running!
Cheers
