Briandk's progress (Was: W2d3 done, plus an introduction.)

About 10 years ago, I tried following a running program. It actually might have been the C25K, but I don't remember any more. I never made it past week 2 as I was plagued with leg pain, probably from not resting and trying to advance too fast. The longest I've run since then was 12 minutes in the army where it was required and where I was in way better shape than now and a 5K with my place of work a few years ago where I walked almost all of it.
A few weeks ago I decided that I did not want to be overweight anymore (probably close to 50lbs), wrote down the calories in what I ate and have been keeping track since and lost 9lbs so far. I saw a post about the C25K on a different forum and the same day I went to a running store and got a pair of shoes.
It's been going really great, I was struggeling a little with W1D3 where I spend the day before racing my motorcycle and was pretty sore. Besides that I've had to keep reminding myself to not run every day even though I feel like it. I know from the first time I tried a running program that, that was probably what made me fail.
Phew, that got a bit long but now to the actual runs. I've been running with my gps phone with nokia sports tracker so I have logs of all my runs and a few pictures here:

Well done for getting back into the programme, and welcome to the forum.
It sounds to me like you have a great strategy for success. You really do have to trust the programme.
Keep us up to date.

I did W3D1 today. The rain was pouring down and I tried to wait it out but it's been going at it all day so I finally just went out and did it. The warm up walk was rather cold, but I felt better once I started running. The 2 x 3 minute runs where not so bad, not something I would have imagined saying when I first started out :)
My chest burns a little from the fabric of my shirt rubbing against it, but it's not too bad.
No gps log this time as I didn't want my phone wet, so I don't know how fast I ran, but I'm surely not setting any speed records :)

Well done,
Thankfully, speed records aren't your goal. You achieved the real goal, which was to get round. And facing down some heavy rain in the process just proves how committed you are.
Keep it up.

Mycket Bra Brian!
Good to see another Sweden based C25ker!
I am British but in Stockholm, I have just finished the programme but I did all bar one session on the treadmill. I do want to start running outside as Sweden is such a beautiful place but I have suffered with shin splints in the past so dont want to bring those on.
I have already dropped a waist size doing this so let that be an encouragement for you.

Thanks for the encouragement. Congrats on finishing.
I can certainly understand you wanting to run outside in Sweden, it's a lovely country. Myself however I'm juuust located western enough to be in Denmark :D
I do visit Sweden a lot though as that is where I race - bikes that is, not quite ready for a foot race yet :)
As for the progress, I got up at 5am this morning and did W3D2, I really tried to keep myself more upright this time and running felt a lot easier, but my lower back has been really sore today, hoping it's just new muscles being used.

Just one more for the week...keep it going.
I'm sure the muscles are just complaining. Nothing that a hot soak and a day's rest won't take care of.

And now week 3 is done.
This time I wore a heartrate monitor. My average for the whole run including walking, warm up and cooldown is 147bpm.
While running I frequently hit the 170s with a max of 173 and I think that was somewhat too high, I centainly couldn't have talked much. Even when I really tried to slow down I had a hard time keeping it in the 160s on the last 3 minute run.
I know it's a bit useless without knowing my Max HR, but I could certainly feel it when I got above 170.
Will try to keep it a bit slower for next week.

W5D2
First 8 minute run was actually pretty easy. I kept a pace of 6:40 per. km, with no trouble. However the last 250-300 meters on the final 8 minute run, it's a rather steep uphill run and I had a hard time trying to keep my heart rate down. I wanted to hug Ullrey when he finally announced the run was over :)

Did W5D3 this morning. It actually wasn't bad at all.
After the first 8 minutes I just kind of found a rythm and pretty much cruised (slowly) through the rest of the run. After the 20 minutes was up I was just comming up on a bit of a hill, so I ran that too.
Looking forward to week 6 :)

Fantastic Brian! The (in)famous W5D3, and you managed it with energy enough for a hill at the end!
Way to go...
