Does anyone know of any inexpensive fitness timer or band or chip that tracks your pace, time and calories burned. I was thinking about the nike + but don't you have to buy the shoes also to insert the chip!? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Hope everyone has a great night. Courtney

Hi Courtney,
Personally I use the Garmin Forerunner 50, which tracks heart rate, time, distance, pace, stride length etc. I like it, but I wouldn't say it was a cheap option. I've heard that you can get a pouch for the Nike + sensor tso that you can attach it to the shoes you already have. However, as I'm not a Nike + user, you'd have to do a bit more research. Companies like Polar and Suunto also do similar things to the Garmin - check running store websites and perhaps Runner's World for reviews.

If by chance you happen to have a Nokia phone with GPS (buildin or via. bluetooth), there is Nokia Sportstracker, it's free and does pace, laps, calories etc.

I use the Nike+--you can buy what's called the "ShoePouch" if you don't want to buy/use the Nike shoes--it'll attach to any shoes!

Courtney, I'm satisfied with the Nike +. The pouch thingy works fine too. I'm not using Nike shoes.
The Nike + tracks your total time, distance and time between each km / mile. It;s not a lot of detail, but it works. It doesn't capture heart rate although I have a watch that does that.
The Garmin looks like it grabs quite a bit more data.
So in a nutshell, you get what you pay for... more bucks... more info.

One other point Courtney.
The Nike + website is very simplistic. There is a different site http://www.runnerplus.com that actually display's more info about each run than than nike's own site. It's no charge and it's definitely superior.
I believe the Garmin's work with this site too however Garmin's own site may have more data. (I've never been on it as I don;t use a Garmin at this point)
Cheers Batman .
