Just signed up for a 5k

Well, I just signed up for a 5k in 3 weeks. I'm on W8D2 now, so there should be no problem finishing the race. It's a benefit run for the American Cancer Society.
Next up: More 5k running!

Well, first 5k race is tomorrow. I'm not sure what time I'll get. I've run the course at about 33 minutes, so I don't think I'll be able to break 30 minutes the first time around. I guess I'll have a goal for my next 5k!

Good luck Melly! Can't wait to hear how it goes.
I have my first 5K next month. Just put my back out though, so a bit of a setback for me. Hope I'm back to running in a few days.

Good luck Melly,
I signed up for my first 5k in Edinburgh in October. I know you'll be just fine. And you did have that 4k as preparation so, hopefully, big race nerves won't be a factor.
Let us know how it goes.

Well, my first 5k race is behind me. It was a beautiful day. I'm not used to running at 8:30 in the morning, but it was fine. I ate a normal breakfast, which for me is just a bowl of oatmeal. I didn't have coffee, though. Well, I did have a half of a cup that was left over from yesterday. (Can't let good coffee go to waste!) Of course, they had food to eat at the race, too. I started off a bit faster than I normally go then panicked a bit when I hit mile 2, so I slowed down a bit. The first mile was done in less than ten minutes, which is probably faster than I've ever run a mile. I had a mental battle towards then end of the mile 2, but I talked myself out of the self-doubt. Mile three went better, but not much faster. Then, maybe 0.1 miles from the 3 mile mark, I upped the speed and finished strong. My time was 31 minutes and 32 seconds. Not bad. I still want to break the 30 minute mark! I guess that just means I'll have to keep training!
Gary, good luck with the 5k in Edinburgh! What a beautiful place to run your first 5k race! We visited there many years ago.

Congratulations Melly!
Who would have thought, several weeks ago, that we'd be sat round casually discussing race times! I think your time was great (personally anything under a 12min mile is what I aim for, and rarely achieve), but it's good that you have a goal to get round in under 30mins.
I've been wrestling with the question of what to do after C25K - I've looked at a few of Bob Glover's schedules in The Runners Handbook which seem interesting, but I can't make up my mind. I guess the priority is to get finished and then I'll see.
Once again, well done.
Gary

Nice job Melly, and I think just over 30 minutes is a pretty darn good time too. Congratulations.
I'm on week 5 now and have signed up for a 5k in early October. So I have plenty of time. I'm thinking of a 10k in December, but I'll hold off a bit til I commit to that.
Keep Running! Cheers Batman

Congratulations Melly! What an awesome result! I have just come home from Week 3, WO 1, and am feeling proud of myself just for jogging 3 minutes... (Something I've never done before in my life). I can't even yet imagine being in your shoes! I have been reading these forums and some of the blogs, for the last couple of weeks and you guys are all so motivational and inspirational. Well done! Anna
