New and Considering C25K

Hello, I am new to the site and considering the C25K. I have been considering it for sometime now, but haven't begun yet. I do walk from time to time, usually 3.2 miles at the park...but I haven't been doing that consistently. I am currently 100 pounds over weight and worried about the weight on my joints. If I remember correctly, the last time I tried to run at the gym I had problems with my left knee hurting...
Anyway, I just thought I would post for some support regarding the program. I have been dieting and have only lost 15 pounds since March. Generally, in order to lose weight I have to exercise and I just haven't had much motivation in that category. I know that for my health I need to do this. By the way, I used to run in my teens and twenties.... After I got married, I just stopped for some reason.
Anyway, thinking hard about it and might start tomorrow. Will let you know if and when I do... Oh and I am happy to have found this site for support...:)

Stop thinking and start doing. You'll be happy you did. Pace yourself, no one says you have to sprint your first week or even you 9th. Take it at your own pace, work your way up.

You won't know until you try, right? It really is a good program for easing you into running. If you don't feel ready to move on, repeat the week. Maybe you'll need to do the first couple weeks 4 or 5 times. Who knows? Just give it a good faith effort.
Next up: More 5k running!

skeeweeaka, there is only one way to get started and that is put your foot out the door and start going. That is the hardest step.
I am/was/still am in the same boat as you. I was/am 100+ lbs overweight. My highest recorded weight was 330. I was a smoker for almost 25+ years give or take a couple years here and there for quitting but I always went back. This June I decided to change my life. I have quit smoking(something I struggle with everyday) and started eating the right foods(and controlling HOW much I eat) and started the C25K program last week.
Today was the first day of my second week on the program and just the short amount of time on the program I can feel the changes. Its worth the effort. So If you are serious about loosing weight and starting the program, just do it. Get the podcast too they really help and inspire.

my story
a group of us started walking the 1000 steps in ferntree gully in melbourne which is about as hard as it sounds, and after 7 weeks of doing it i felt great. then they closed them for 3 months for upgrade. i was about 25 kilos overweight and didnt want to start running as i thought id injure myself but i knew i had to do something. then i did some research and found the c25k program. i started and havent looked back. i do not run anywhere else than on grass, at my local football oval. I also bought a pair of bioslyxx/skins type longjohns and I reckon i couldnt have gotten through the training course wihtout them.
good luck, take it at your own pace, if youre really sore take a few days off and start back where you left off. my 8 weeks have taken me just over 10 weeks with a rolled ankle and a bad flu.
you can do it

I agree with the other poster, I would start it gently. Take your time, the important thing is taking the first few steps, its not a race.
I used to think dieting alone would work but it doesnt. Running/jogging helps in many ways, I like to do it at lunchtime and then I dont want to eat unhealthy.
Try it and see it how it goes.
I would recommend Mike Huckabee's book 'Stop digging your grave with a knife and fork'. Forget his politics, he lost 100 pounds and he was a Governor so if he had time to do it then anyone can. Its really inspired me.

I just discovered C25K and I have committed to doing it. I have 50 pounds to lose (that is so difficult for me to say!) and I figure becoming mobile again (I use to walk everywhere I went, until I got a car:-D) will help me lose the weight and reconfigure my body. Plus, I have two little girls who need to know the joy of running and I have to learn to keep up with them. I say all this to say that you have to have a commitment to a driving motivation: my real driving motivation is keeping up with, outrunning, and having fun with my children. I can only do that if I'm healthy (including within my optimal weight range). Once you find your motivation, you'll start without a problem. The hardest step is the first...

Hi there. So many people have replied to you. I guess they've said it all. I am also very much overweight, with two small children, but have been active most of my life. It's true, get started, one foot in front of the other. DON'T be afriad to push through the bad runs, even when you feel it isn't worth it. I have got so much motivation from this forum & am now on wk 3 running 3 minutes & not exactly dying. Understand it is also a mental game & you CAN do it. I know you can. Push through, but take it slow. Looking fwd to seeing your 9th week forum post...
