I am seriously considering this program as I start weight watchers next week. My husband and I both quit smoking 2 years ago cold turkey after smoking for 45 years. It's amazing we can quit smoking but we can't quit eating! Someone suggested this program to us as we both (well ok him more than me) walk and enjoy it. My only question is has anyone started this in their late 50's? I am 59 and my husband is 61. Neither of us have any desire to run marathons, but maybe this would be better excerise than just walking around a track. Thanks for any information!

I would ask a doctor first. Otherwise, there are plenty of people your age running out there

Ouiser, I started this year at age 54. I was cleared for exercise a number of months ago during my annual checkup.
To date I've not had any major problems. (A bit of knee soreness on one knee flared up recently but it's not too bad.)
There are thousands and thousands of runners over 50 and 60. They key is start gradually. Your walking will have helped already, and the c25k plan takes it from there.
Certainly there are lots of aches and pains that you'll notice along they way, but so does everyone else regardless of age. I have found that, eventually you just simply think of yourself as a runner and you're not focused on your age.
Good luck with it and let us know how it's going.
I keep detail track of my program in my blog that can be accessed from the button below.
Keep Running! Cheers Batman

Thanks everyone. I think I'll load it up on the ipod and give it a whirl! I'm not sure Tom will try it but he will continue his 3 miles a day walk. I just can't get that worked up about walking around a track so this interested me. I just wasn't sure if this was just for younger people if running has never been in the picture. Thanks again!
