new to c25k, did w1d1 yesterday (sort of)

hi y'all. i used to run regularly about 10 years ago. then i pushed myself too hard and busted up my knees, started smoking somewhere around the same time, and i pretty much stopped from there.

i've done other forms of exercise over the years, but nothing has quite packed a punch like jogging.

i've hesitated to begin jogging again because of various nagging body parts - my knees, my lower back, and my left arch.

i've gained a lot of weight recently and it's making me miserable, so i have decided to try c25k and hope i don't injure myself.

so i did w1d1 last night and did about half of it. so i guess i'm on w0 and have to work my way up to w1. i just felt like i was straining and i'm so nervous about injury, especially with all the extra weight i'm carrying around.

however, part of me feels loser-ish because it seems like anyone should at least be able to do the first day?

Don't be too hard on yourself. Congrats on making the first move. I've read on this site that it doesn't matter how slow you jog. You are training your body to run again. I am doing w1d3 tomorrow and I can say that d2 was easier than d1.

Keep on going you'll get there in the end.

No losers here, just winners.  Do day 1 again and slow down.  Don't run at your old pace :)  You'll make it, I promise!

Hi Antelope.

Before I started the C25K is simply walked for about 45 minutes a day for 3 weeks. I had similar worries about running, and from what I understood the walking would help the muscles, bones and connective tissues adapt to the new regime. The You Exercise Plan recommends a month of walking 30 minutes before any running.

Anyway, it seemed to work well for me. My legs felt ready for the runs and I went through many weeks of the C25K without any serious problems.

Welcome aboard.

Keep Running!
Cheers

I am starting W3D1 tomorrow, and am starting to look forward to running.  I am 35, and was never a runner.  I hated running during phy-ed in high school. I am very overweight, but decided I needed to do something!  Hang in there, I have found that the first day of each week is hard!  However, by the end of the week I am pleasantly surprised at how much my body adjusts!  Just keep trying, you don't need to sprint!  Find a nice easy pace that works for you!

I used to run about 15 years ago. A couple months ago I started walking. I was walking 5 days a week for 30 mins. 4 weeks ago, I was introduced to the C25k. Even after walking for 2 months, it was pretty hard for me to finish the first day, so don't be hard on yourself. Just stay with it.

Tomorrow is my w4d1 ;)

I did my first 2 weeks walking. My body was so used to the couch that I had to walk to just get used to moving again. Now I'm On week 2 day 2 of the program and feeling fine.
