running and weight training

Hi all,

I would like your opinions on when it would be okay to start weight training. I would love to build up some muscles along with losing some of the flab! Should I hold off on training the lower body for a while? Have you guys noticed a change in your legs from running?

Does anyone have a running/weight training routine that they follow?

I'm glad I stumbled onto this forum, you are all an inspiration to me!

It's weird, I've only been running three weeks now but I've noticed a huge difference in my legs. Specifically the muscles in my calf that are much more pronounced now, and my thighs seem slimmer.

I'm only a beginner runner, so I don't know much about the whole shebang, but I think it'd be beneficial to do weight training on the upper body; mine doesn't feel like it's getting worked so much when I run.

Maybe you could alternate running/weight training throughout the week?

The rest days are important for your muscle to regenerate, so don't do any lower body work in your off running days.

I did upper body weights on my off days and running as my lower body work.

Thanks for the replies. Penguinfan, I have finished W1D2 and I am glad that I didn't do any lower body training! My legs are sore! But it's a good sore hahaha.

epicureaneve - thanks for sharing that, you have given me more motivation to keep it going. I'll  take your guys' advice and not to push myself too fast.
