You and I are at the same stage. I can't believe that I am looking forward to each new challenge. Jogging is just something I've never done, never even considered before, yet now I find myself thinking ooh, week 4 tomorrow!

I know what you mean. Week 4 Day 1 was not as great as I thought it was going to be. It was actually pretty tough. I don't feel bad now, 6 hours later... but boy was it a challenge. Crazy as it is, I am still looking forward to day 2 of week 4. How was you run?

Me too! I found the first 5 min jog extremely tough going. The second 5 min interval was a bit better, I felt more comfortable and my breathing was better, I think I took it a lot slower. Have decided to take it real slow again on Wednesday, at this point I won't worry about distance covered, just focus on getting the time done. Also, winter has well and truly left us, it was probably about 27oC on Sunday afternoon when I ran, I think the heat and humidity that lie ahead are going to be a challenge for me as well. But having read all these other guys stories, I'm sure WE CAN DO IT!

I agree, all everything! I plan on taking it a lot easier Wednesday as well. It's hot and humid here in Texas, probably been about 95 degrees (35 celesius) so it's been a challenge for me especially. But like you said, if everyone else has been able to endure and complete it, so shall we. Thanks for the encouragement! It's nice to have a virtual running mate :-)

Thanks guys! Thomas, how was day 2? I finished mine a couple of hours ago, and it was a lot better than day 1, although still tough. I also listened to music for the first time, which was great. I run on the grass running track at the local primary school, and my daughters sit at the goal posts at one end (its a football field as well), with a watch and yell out to me when its time to change. Last night my eleven year old downloaded songs onto her ipod for me (the kids have ipods, but neither of the parents do - how sad) so I could actually jog to music, with my 'coach' blowing her whistle for me at the right intervals. lol :)

Anna, I think we actually run close to the same time. I finished my run about 3 hours ago and it was indeed much better than day 1. The first 3 minute and 5 minutes were fairly tough, but the last 3 minute and 5 minute runs were actually not bad at all. I was shocked. As a matter of fact, I think I would ahve been able to jog a little longer at the end fo the 5 minute run. I use a watch that has the intervals timed so it alerts me when to change from run to walk, but I too have downloaded some audio books to my daughters Ipod (My wife and I are in the same boat. We both don't have Ipods, but our daughter does, and she's only 2 1/2!) and plan to begin listening to some books I've been dying to read, but don't have time for. I figure once I get into the 8 - 30 minute range I'll need something to take my mind off the time.
Great job by the way! We should be ready for week 5 after day 3 for sure!

Well, W4,d3, done and dusted! For some reason I still struggled with the first 3 min run and the first three mins of the 5 min interval, then suddenly at about the 4th minute, it was like I changed gear, and it went much better. When the last 5 mins was up, I hadn't made it twice around the (400m)track, so I sped up and completed the last 100m at a quicker pace. I've also noticed that I'm recovering better between intervals. How was your run?
BRING ON WEEK 5! (Gulp!)

Almost the same exact thing here. I sped up at the last minute of the final 5 minute run. I tried to push for at least 50% max exertion. I think I kept it at about 60 - 70. I was definitely tired afterwards, but I also recovered much better. Especially between intervals. I have some traveling I must do for my job next week, but I'm staying only at places with a track nearby or at the very least a treadmill. Should be interesting. I'll still keep everyone posted though. I'm in I.T. so I'll have a computer with me at all times anyways. :-) Great job!

W5D1. It was Father's Day here yesterday, so I ran this afternoon instead, but that's okay, my schedule has always been Sunday or Monday, Wednesday, Friday. The upside of missing the run yesterday was that my gorgeous Husband ran with me today. He has always been much fitter than I, and it was great to have his company and encouragement. The first 5 mins was again the toughest, but for (fleeting) moments in the 2nd and 3rd intervals, I actually found myself enjoying the run. Would not have believed that possible 5 weeks ago! Took it pretty slow, but had enough left in the tank to really push myself for the last minute. :-)

The first 5 minutes were the best for me this time. I felt really fresh and the run was natural feeling. I felt I could have definitely went on longer than the 5 minutes. The last two were not as good, but they were not bad at all either. I felt I could have run more on both of those runs as well. All in all, it was a really good day.

Hi Thomas, how did W5D2 go for you? I am still finding that I struggle at around the 4min mark of my first run, but after that things improve. By minute 6 my breathing was much better again, my only problem was pain in the back of the legs above the ankles for the entire time. My recovery between and after runs is much better than it was, so I am really pleased about that. Hope you've been able to find somewhere to run while you're away from home.
We're 8 minute runners!
Good luck for D3!
