Ullrey's C25K podcasts

These are what enable me to do this program. His music is interesting, his tone encouraging without being too intense, and having the intervals counted out for you is invaluable!

I've been running to these as well!  I have enjoyed them greatly, though Week 4's garage band type music in the last run was  a little....offputting?  Tomorrow is my last week 4 run, hopefully week 5 returns to the dance/techno type music, it's a bit more motivating for me!

I think his podcasts are essential.  Doing the distance method instead of the time method, well . . . I think I'd have quit already.  But the time method with the podcasts is perfect.  There's no thinking required, and all of my mental energies can be focused on the running.  They are wonderful!

I wish I could find (and perhaps I'll make some to share) podcasts that used more of my kind of music (heavy metal, hard rock, etc.), but these are just fine so far.  As long as it's not hip-hop, I'll be fine! :)

I actually make my own tracks for running with audio cues when to run and when to walk.  It's pretty simple.  There are some free audio editing apps out there for Windows or if you have a Mac you can use Garageband, which comes with a new Mac.  Simply add the music you want into one long audio file and then add some audio cues at the moments when you switch to/from running and walking.  I use the sound effect of an old telephone bell.  It works really well for me.

i started week 1 yesterday using Ullrey's track. It certainly helped not to have to be looking at the watch all the time to know when to run and when to walk. I'm not a big techno fan, so i'll probably make my own for later weeks, if i get time, but these are always a good fallback. Only thing i found was i was concentrating so much on when he told me to run and walk, that i lost track of where i was, so ended up going too far before i turned for home and had much longer cooldown walk than planned. no harm done though.

I am going to ask a stupid question. How do I get the MP3 files off of Ullrey's page? Yeah, not too techno-saavy here... I click on them & they play in Windows Media Player, but there's no way to "save" or "download" them... Help!

yeah, well there plenty of free podcasts or

whatever on the internet that are

supposedly "designed" for workouts, but

remember -- you get what you pay for -- the

creators of these podcasts have to rely on

"free" music...... they can't license real

hits, they could never afford to .... if

you look carefully at the playlists, you'll

realize they are all either outdated techno

from back in the 90's, or they are really

"underground" (i.e. terribly, terribly

boring) tracks, with just a beat going

forever until u want to kill yourself --

....

If you want something that's really going

to get you motivated and keep you

motivated... I recommend the "Euro Club

Hits" series -- it's on iTunes -- you can

just search for it, or try this link:

Actually, Jenwhiz, about a third of the songs on the podcasts I did are only available for purchase. I got specific permission in writing from my associate Indie Christian artists. Some emailed me their tracks, some I purchased to give the artist business, they deserve it. One artist's music is only available via CD purchase.

Some of them that sell their music are as good as anything you hear on the radio today. Some aren't quite that good. (Think my stuff would fall in that category. It's pretty good but not radio material yet.)

Some of the artists I have on there give their music away, and yet they are as good as any KLOVE song I've heard.

It's an interesting mix. Some of it is rough and ragged, the next song might be a polished diamond. One song Christian Country, the next song Folk, the next Pop, then perhaps a light rock song.

The only thing I slightly kick myself for on it is that I didn't get permission from the artists to adjust the BPM, (I thought it might damage the songs anyway) so the BPM varies from song to song. Most are around 120, I think.

Check out the Christian Indie C25K Podcast...

I use the podcasts from Ullrey too.  I love them.  I tried to do the C25K a couple years ago keeping track of the time on my own.  I gave up a long time ago.  The podcasts are great because the music is upbeat and you don't have to worry about tracking your time.

Hi
there is a button on the left , to subscribe the podcasts to itunes. Just click that and get all the 9 weeks program on your comp (on itunes). Then you can transfer them to your ipod or mp3 player.

True,

These podcasts are fantastic. They make this whole daunting task simple and lovable. I am looking forward for the next workout. Thanks to Robert.

And regarding the idea of having our own music and tracks......i think if i was so motivated by myself, then probably i would be running 50K. The whole beauty about this program is that somebody else is taking the led and guiding you. The coolrunning.com designed the workouts and Robert helping us make it enjoyable. I would stick to that rather meddle with it or have my own tracks.
Cheers

Hi,

Doesn't anyone expect the podcast to include the last interval of (brisk) walk, before the cool down period? Every routine is X minutes of running followed by Y minutes of walking. Last night I stared week 3 and it ends with 3 minutes run followed by 3 minutes walk, THEN the cooldown. I do not walk at the same pace between runs as for the cooldown period.

I feel somewhat cheated (kidding) and am missing music at the end of my training. I leave home as the podcast starts, warmup during 5 minutes, turn back at the midpoint and expect to reach home around the end of the podcast. But the more important point, I think, is that the training program expects us to walk before cooling down. I'm also thinking of making my own podcasts (rock flavor probably) and want to know what people expect.

So what do you think?
