Question for Podcast Users
Reply Quote
Would any of you be interested in another option for C25k podcasts?  I know the existing podcasts work well for many, but I made my own tracks as I went through the program because I was not a fan of the music on any of them.  I obviously cannot use licensed music, but I have access to a very large library of non-licensed music that I could use and there is some really good stuff there.  The music may include pop/classic rock/easy listening type stuff.  Nothing too heavy or too dull.  Definitely lighter on the techno/electronic stuff than the other options.  They would also be free.  Is anybody interested?  If it seems there is demand I will put it together.  Let me know your thoughts.

Do you prefer somebody coaching with verbal encouragement along the way or would you just rather skip the talk other than having somebody tell you when to run and walk?  Any comments will be welcome.

Thanks and Happy Running!

Mike

I've only listened to/used robert ullrey's podcasts. I did like his style though of just letting you get on with it after telling you to start walking or running.
On the longer runs I "enjoyed" anticipating and gauging where I would be when he would say 1 minute to go.
Different music with Robert's style would be great.
Now I'm finished I looking for/interested in some stuff for after c25k ie: 30mins with warm up.

Options are great! I would love to have another podcast with new music. I really like the way Robert Ullrey announces the changes, so my vote would be to stick to that format.

Thanks for taking this on! :)

Even though I am past the point of needing the podcasts (unless you started with week6!) I think it would be wonderful if you 'ran' with this idea.  Honestly the most frustrating part of C25K was dealing with the music and timing situation.  I used my watch timers whenever  I could,  and then created a generic week4 playlist, but something other than Ullrey's techno could be a HUGE help to all the future C25Kers out there.  I did find RU's verbal style motivating, so I would stick to that type of format.

Sounds like it might be worth doing.  I statarted the first one last night.  I actually started with week 4.  I thought I might be able to post a sample for the C25K forum users to try and let me know what they think.  By starting at week 4 I thougt I might have a better chance of finding testers.  It seems many find this forum in about week 2 or 3.

After week 6 the complicated timimg is mostly over so you can just use any play list you make.  I was actually thinking of only making podcasts for week 1-6.  I guess I will see how it goes.

Anybody have a good idea for a name?  Off the couch?  C25K workouts?  C25K training podcast?

Thanks,

Mike

Hey Mike,

Sounds like a great idea. One of the mistakes I feel I made in mine is in not getting permission to adjust the tempos to a regular beat.

Are you using Audacity or Garageband, and either way, do you have the ability to match the BPM of each track as you lay it down?

I would say it might be beneficial to set up Weeks 1-6 and then set up several 30min runs with 120bpm, 150bpm, and 180bpm.

Right now I'm running week 7 and averaging a little less than a 10min Mile pace.

Name for it?

I use Garageband for audio editing.  I know some prefer to have their music match a certain BPM but I plan to just use genrally up-tempo music.  The BMP will vary depending on the song.  I never cared much about the BMP as long as I liked the music.  Since the listeners will all be at different paces I figure they just need something interesting to listen to as they run with queues as to when to run and walk.

I will put together a first try and post it for download.  I hope to have a few try it, get some comments and then see where to go from there.

Hi Mike... yeah.. I'd be interested for sure. I am eternally grateful for the Ullrey podcasts but can do without the I-Robot tunes. I do like his minimal comments throughout as reminders of technique and telling me where I am in the progression of intervals, so keep that part. This would be so super if you could do this.  Thanks!      mickeefynn

I listened to the Ullrey and the Podrunner podcasts. But I happen to love techno and loved both podcasts for different reasons. I appreciated the tempo change in rhythm with running or walking in Podrunner, but I missed the verbal encouragement that Robert gave in his. I think a pop music version would be nice. Thanks for putting together a new one!

I don't mind techno-style music, so I've been getting on well with the Podrunner Intervals, but it'd be nice to have another style of music to switch to so I can change it about. What I like about the Podrunner ones is that the tempo speeds up/slows down for the running/walking sections, and gets a little faster each week.

I am only in week one.  I would love another option to run to.  Please put these together, I would be happy to test them out as I go through the program.

I plan on doing each week at least twice through, as I am starting from very out of shape and overweight.
